The Best Juggling Balls for Beginners

One of the questions that many new jugglers have is: what are the best juggling balls for beginners? This is a great question because all juggling balls are not equal, and not all juggling balls are good for beginners.

When you are new to juggling, I recommend starting with a beanbag. There are a wide array of different kinds of juggling balls, but a beanbag is a great place to start. Once you learn how to juggle you can build your collection of juggling balls like I did. Trust me, there will be plenty of time for that. No matter how many juggling balls you have, you’ll want another set.

Here are a few good starter recommendations. You can buy them directly here by adding to your cart, or navigate to my site JuggledUp.com:

4-Panel Juggling Balls

These basic 4-panel juggling beanbags from Juggle Dream (pictured above) from my site JuggledUp.com is a great place to start. These balls are cheap and they are also soft, shiny, and very durable. They have a nice weight of about 120 grams and are 65 mm in diameter making them easy to catch and throw.

Juggling DVD Kit

Another nice beginner beanbag set is the Higgins Brothers Complete Juggling Ensemble (pictured above) by Higgins Brothers. I love this set for beginners because it comes with an instructional DVD. They come with a set of 3 HB Juggling Balls which are heavier than the first ones I mentioned at 130 grams, but also more durable.

High-Quality 4-Panel Balls

If you want the same high-quality HB Juggling Balls, but you don’t need the DVD, I recommend this 3 ball set that comes with scannable code to Youtube.com video instructions. HB balls are made in Canada and they pride themselves on the quality of these balls. Even an experienced juggler would be happy to have these.

8-Panel Juggling Balls

My final recommendation is something similar to the other beanbags, but a little different due to the construction. These balls (pictured above) are made of 8 panels and thus are a little bit more expensive due to their construction. They are also 120 grams like the first balls I recommended. Some jugglers like the unique look and feel of an 8-panel ball.

Conclusion

I gave you three recommendations for the best juggling balls for beginners. All of my recommendations are beanbags because I think that stage balls and hybrid type balls should be reserved for the more experienced juggler. It’s just easier to learn with beanbags in my experience.

Even if you don’t want to purchase one of these beanbags here are a few guidelines for a good juggling ball for beginners:

  • soft
  • 2.5″
  • 120-130 grams

Those are the 3 characteristics that I think make a good beginner juggling balls. For children, 2″ may be appropriate, but not for adults. When a ball is less than 2.5″ it tends to bounce off your hands and makes it much harder to catch.

New Dube Deluxe Beanbags

Have you seen the new Dube Deluxe Beanbags? They are a 12-panel beanbag. Well if you haven’t juggled a 12-beanbag, you’re in for a treat.

I personally prefer the feeling of a 12-panel beanbag because of the uniformity. It feels more circular to me than a 4 or even 8-panel beanbag. Since there are more panels, the stitch lines are shorter which I think equates to more durability. Nothing is worse than when a beanbag starts splitting. I think that you’ll have to put these through a lot of abuse before that ever happens.
